(In)Tangible Innovations. . .
. . . began with feedback, input from my social environment, that told me, “I think too much.” Ever adapting, I divided myself into two parts: my academic (or intangible) side and my sensory/perceiving (tangible) side. Both sides worked to make my life meaningful.
Over the years it has proven a welcome, but intricate challenge to reunite these two halves. My academic self, delightfully satisfied to mirror back to me rewarding, random, and rich content, thrives in monologue. To receive the benefits of the social exchange, I turned up the volume on
the vocabulary of relationships: metaphor, graphic images, art.
So, I was primed and waiting when a colleague planted before me Brené Brown’s animation “on Empathy,” RSA 2013. Twelve viewings later (and counting), I reflect on the “bear” as he traverses the ladder between the superficial and the underground.
With these powerful questions any of us may follow the bear into this new way of being:
- How will you use the ladder?
- What sights, sounds, fragrances, & sensations do you notice.
- How do you want others to respond to you now? With this reciprocity, what emotions do you detect from the other?
- As you linger, Gremlins might surface. How will you manage?
- Now a visitor of the underground, how will you navigate powerfully?
Schedule a Discovery Session
Through a free Discovery Session, we will design our meeting time and alliance together. We will meet (virtually, by phone, or in person) to talk about your struggles, short-term goals, and desired outcomes. You will learn more about the co-active coaching process: the alliance, progress, feedback, duration, and completion. If we jointly agree that we share an energy and optimism for change, then I will offer you an introduction packet and some scheduling options.
